Independent Comprehension - Teacher and Student Screen

1. Select Comprehension from the main menu on the left to begin the Comprehension component. Comprehension includes Hill Readers decodable text series aligned with WAT lists.

2. In Independent Comprehension, each student will be reading from their own story selected automatically based on their WAT list. Below, you see the story, book, and chapter of the Hill Reader as well as the associated WAT list.

3. The pencil icon allows you to view and edit story information, such as skipping/resetting stories or setting story baseline.

4. Once you select the pencil, the teacher can view which Hill Reader the student is currently in. Here you see Darius is in Book 4.

5. You can view the current story, associated WAT list, as well as the rule for the word list.

6. Select the down arrow to preview the story.

7. To the left you can see phonetic words, high frequency words, and questions. To the right, the teacher is able to preview the story.

8. As seen in the lower right corner of the pop-up, the teacher has the ability to Skip, Reset, or Add Next Story.

9. To close out of the story preview, select the X in the top right corner of the pop-up.

10. Select Start Independent for each student to begin Independent Comprehension.

11. STUDENT SCREEN - Students see the story to the left of the screen as well as any phonetic or high frequency words in the boxes. Students may need to scroll to see the story in its entirety.

12. Questions associated with the story are to the right of the screen.

13. Students will select the question to enter a response.

14. Once students type their response, they must select Save to record their response.

16. The student then moves onto the next story in the scope and sequence to continue working.

17. TEACHER SCREEN - Once the student has submitted their answers, a red dot will appear beside the student's name on the teacher device. Select the check to grade student responses.

20. Select Done Grading once all responses have been graded. If a student missed any questions, the story will be sent back for them to correct any incorrect responses.

21. STUDENT SCREEN - Once the student completes the story on which they are currently working, they will see the story and questions that need error corrections. The student will select the question that needs to be corrected.

22. The student will edit their response and select Save.

24. TEACHER SCREEN - The red dot indicates that the student has work that needs to be graded. The teacher selects the check icon to grade student work.

25. Once the teacher has graded the student's corrected response, select Done Grading.

26. To end the Independent Comprehension component, select Stop Independent for each student.
